Specific Technical Expertise – Paint Coatings

• 40 years’ experience in the formulation, application, surface preparation, properties, testing, weathering, corrosion and failure analysis of paint coatings applied to various surfaces.
• My Ph.D. research was on the corrosion of painted autobody steel.  That work earned me the Romanoff Award for the best paper published in Corrosion Journal that year.
• By invitation of the United States Department of Defense, I presented a paper titled “Corrosion Mechanisms of Painted Metals” at the DoD Corrosion 2011 Conference.
• Have published two book chapters on paint coatings, and numerous articles on paint technology in respected technical journals.
• Have served as an expert witness on over 40 cases involving paint coatings.

• In-depth knowledge of plastics technology, ranging from manufacturing to final product testing to failure analysis involving polyethylene (trash bags, milk jugs, etc.), PVC (polyvinyl chloride), polypropylene (residential siding, packaging, etc.), polycarbonate, polyesters (PET – polyethylene terephthalate, and PBT – polybutylene terephthalate), fluoropolymers (PTFE – polytetrafluoroethylene), and polyamides. 
• Have served as an expert witness on over 10 cases involving plastics.

Specific Technical Expertise – Lithium-ion Batteries

• Served as expert witness on three Li-ion battery cases.
• Thorough knowledge of Li-ion battery technology and materials, including:
• The electrochemical theory of Li-ion transport to and from electrodes.
• Knowledge of the electrode materials, including copper foil current collectors, the coatings applied to the electrodes, and the “separators” that keep the electrodes separated to prevent the electrodes from contacting each other resulting in a short circuit to cause a fire or explosion.
• While Manager of Fluoropolymer Research at Arkema Chemicals, I was responsible for product development of fluoropolymer separators used in Li-ion batteries.
